In an effort to maintain the Lorneville-Seaview Cemeteries as among the finest in the Maritimes, the Board of Directors is continuing its projects. The progress so far has greatly improved the efficiency and visual appearance of the cemeteries as well as the access to them. NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF MANY PEOPLE. The level of maintenance and upgrading of the cemeteries will continue to be directly related to the amount of financial support we receive.

This summer, in addition to our regular on-going tasks, there will be two major projects being worked on,:

  1. CEMETERY DAY – It was decided at our annual shareholders’ meeting on April 24, 2013 that we would stage a special DAY on Saturday September 7, 2013 to officially open our new Visitors’ Centre. There will be several activities involved –see attached sheet for details.
  1. Documentation of Lot owners & their burial plans.
Many capital improvement projects were completed to bring the physical sites to a respectful memorial standard, and now the focus will be on establishing the best operating practices to help maintain this standard into the future. As part of this effort, we are reaching out to current Lot owners or their descendants to mark plot plans indicating where future burials are planned. This will aid Volunteers and Funeral Home Directors to establish where burials are to occur, and also help Lot owners/families prepare grave monument markers to match lots and burial locations.

OTHER WORK PROJECTS FOR 2013

  • Level & re-seed sunken graves – Finish interior of Information Centre
  • Level gravestones/ clean off moss & dirt – Plant trees

WE WISH TO THANK ALL THOSE WHO HAVE SUPPORTED US IN THE PAST AND ARE NOW ASKING FOR YOUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR THE YEAR 2013.

The next meeting of the shareholders of LORNEVILLE-SEAVIEW CEMETERIES INC. will be held on Wednesday evening April 23, 2014, at the Lorneville Community Centre. The Corporation’s by-laws require that anyone wishing to vote must be a shareholder. There is a limit of one share per person at a cost of $5.00 and it lasts a lifetime. It can be purchased at anytime from Faye Galbraith, or at the meeting.

!!!!! IMPORTANT   !!!!!

IT WOULD BE A TREMENDOUS HELP TO US TO HAVE ANY OF THOSE WHO HAVE NOT YET FILLED OUT ONE OF THESE FORMS, DO SO NOW AND SEND IT IN. THANKS

All of you have relatives buried in the Lorneville/Seaview Cemeteries. Those relatives that were buried in the 1800’s and early 1900’s no longer have immediate family living. These plots, in many cases, were in a bad state of neglect with sunken graves and stones tipped and fallen over. They now have been repaired and, as well, there are numerous other major projects that have been completed throughout the Cemeteries.

The Lorneville-Seaview Cemetery Committee feels that the cost of improvements and general maintenance of the cemetery plots should be borne by the relatives of the people buried there, and the plots owners. As well as those in the Saint John area, there are many relatives scattered across Canada and elsewhere who have at least one if not several sets of grandparents and other relatives buried here.

With this in mind, we have developed a list of possible contributors. We are asking if you would agree to contribute a fixed sum of your choice each year, thus giving us an idea of the amount of financial support we can expect to receive. If your answer is positive, you will receive a request notice each year. All contributions are tax deductible and you will be issued a tax receipt. If you do not wish to contribute to the upkeep of your relatives’ plots, we will remove your name from the list. If you wish to correspond by email, you can do so at the following address: inf@lornevilleseaviewcemeteries.ca . All contributors will receive copies of our yearly newsletter and updates.

All contributions are tax deductible and you will be issued a tax receipt.
